YouthBuild Charter School of California invites you to the exclusive grand opening of our new DTLA headquarters and to CREATE WITHOUT LIMITS - a public art show featuring the creativity of our students and supporters including painting, filmmaking, and poetry. Enjoy the artistic creations of our culinary arts students and an interactive art activity to explore and inspire your own creativity.
Due to the generous donations of friends of YCSC, we will also hold an auction, with proceeds benefiting the JANIS MATERO ARTS FUND, established in honor of founder, Phil Matero's, late sister, also a young artist.
On 16 sites in California, YCSC serves young adults ages 16-24 who have stepped away from traditional school settings, often due to academic, financial, safety and/or family challenges. Our teachers work every day to help students re-engage in learning - and they’ve found that the arts are one of the most powerful ways to do that. Through creative expression, students build confidence, reconnect with school, and begin to see new possibilities for their futures.
However, teachers consistently report that their arts programs need additional tools and structure to reach their full potential. At the same time, students are eager for opportunities to showcase their work, connect with their communities, and pursue creative career pathways - limited only by their imaginations.
CREATE WITHOUT LIMITS will bring these elements together while raising funds for student/classroom art supplies and technology and teacher training to increase access to the arts as well as Janis Matero Arts Scholarships for the next steps of our students' creative futures.
