YouthBuild Charter School of California and its YouthBuild program partners offer a variety of free (and sometimes paid) job training opportunities for students. Learn more about them below!
CAMT (Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician)
YouthBuild Charter School of California offers a free Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) program via online distance learning. This program is available to all YCSC students at any site. As part of the CAMT program, students learn about:- Electrical services and repairs
- HVAC services and repairs
- Painting and drywalling
- Construction services and repairs
- Mechanical services and repairs
- Appliance services and repairs
- Professional behavior patterns, communication skills, and appearance
- And more!
Upon completion of all CAMT coursework (including hands-on training and a Maintenance Lab at the Apartment Association of Greater LA), students take the CAMT exam to officially become certified apartment maintenance technicians, and have the potential to find work earning them between $35,000 - $55,000 or more a year.
We are now recruiting students to join our CAMT job training program. CAMT students earn 10 credits and will be placed in a paid internship in Summer 2023. Classes start in March, so sign up today!

Conservation Corps Training (Including Paid Opportunities)
In addition to construction training, two of our YouthBuild program partners also offer a Conservation Corps program with paid opportunities in fields, such as public lands conservation, recycling, solar, and other environmental projects. Students can receive paid conservation corps work experience at the following YouthBuild/Conservation Corps programs:
Construction Training
Most YouthBuild Charter School of California sites offer a free Construction Career Pathways Training program implementing the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) to train young people enrolled at our school who wish to pursue potential career opportunities in the construction or building trades. If you are a current or potential YouthBuild Charter student interested in taking part in our YouthBuild Construction Training Program, please talk to your YouthBuild site’s school counselor about the construction training options available to you.
About MC3 (Multi-Craft Core Curriculum)
The Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) is a comprehensive apprenticeship readiness curriculum. It was developed and approved by the Building Trades National Apprenticeship and Training Committee. MC3 defined is the attainment of essential competencies that apply to most, if not all, of the building trades.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Orientation and Industry Awareness
- Tools and Materials
- Construction Health and Safety
- Blueprint Reading
- Basic Math for Construction
- Heritage of the American Worker
- Diversity in the Construction Industry
- Green Construction
- Financial Responsibility
The MC3 curriculum places a high priority on employee readiness. Its 120 hour curriculum places a third of those hours in employability skills.
Paid Construction Training
Some of our YouthBuild program partners also offer paid construction training thanks to Department of Labor grant funding awarded by YouthBuild USA and other funding sources. The following YouthBuild programs offer paid construction training:

Culinary & Hospitality Arts
Three of our YouthBuild program partners offer free hands-on training in the culinary arts field, where students have the opportunity to learn about food preparation, handling and safety. Chef Orlando Hutcherson is our amazing Culinary Instructor, who previously held Executive Chef positions with Glendale Adventist Medical Center, USC Hospitality , Universal Studios, The North American Toyota Headquarters for Sodexo and the Omni Hotel. Since working with YCSC, he has made it his mission to engage and employ the students that have been part of his class focusing on food safety, community nutrition awareness, food preparation, cultural food connection, customer service and all around hospitality knowledge.

Music/Recording Arts and Film/Creative Arts
Some of our YouthBuild program partners also offer opportunities for students to receive job training in music and recording arts or in film, acting and the creative arts.
Music/Recording Arts
Through a partnership with 4 Learning, YouthBuild Charter School of California students at Youth Justice Coalition (in South Central LA), San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps (in El Monte and Pomona), LA CAUSA YouthBuild (in East LA), and Rising Stars Business Academy (in Moreno Valley) have the opportunity to receive hands-on training in the recording arts. Our students learn how to use state of the art recording software and receive mentorship in all things related to the music industry.

Film, Content Creation, and Creative Arts
Our partners at Home Sweet Home YouthBuild (in Mid-City LA) offer a Film and Music Academy, where students have the chance to learn from established YouTubers and content creators in Los Angeles and set up their own channels where they can create their own unique content.
