Safely Returning to In-Person Learning

YouthBuild Charter School of California is excited to be back to school with in-person learning this fall. We are committed to implementing the highest safety standards and protocols at every YCSC site to welcome our students back for the 2021-22 school year, beginning with our Compton and Fresno sites on August 9th, followed by all other sites on August 30th, 2021.

Learning Options: All of our school sites will offer full-day instruction, five days a week, along with lunch and meal breaks and extracurricular activities. Independent Studies options are available as well and have been communicated to all students and parents before the start of school.

Safety: YCSC has the highest standards of safety. We will have a spectrum of Covid-19 prevention strategies, including face masks, hand sanitizer, temperature and health checks, ventilation, and regular deep cleaning and disinfection. Appropriate Covid-19 screening and testing options will be made available to all students and staff, and we strongly encourage all students and their families to get vaccinated if they have not done so already. YCSC will update these protocols as necessary to the latest public health guidelines for student safety.

Covid-19 Self Screening: Staff and students can now download the Preworkscreen App in order to complete Covid-19 self screenings and upload proof of vaccination, if necessary. Use our school registration code 24014 when setting up your account. Click here for step by step instructions. For those without smart phones, you can register on the Preworkscreen website.

Preparing for the return to the classroom: Returning to in-person learning this school year will be a big change from distance learning last school year and regular in-person learning prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Here are some steps students can take to ensure they are ready to return to campus safely in the fall.

  1. Get vaccinated: Vaccinations have been proven safe and effective for anyone age 12 and older. Vaccines are an important part of protecting yourself and others. We hope eligible students and families can take advantage of free vaccination clinics across California. Click here to learn more about the vaccines. Looking to get vaccinated? Click here for a list of locations where you can receive the vaccine for free.

  2. Get tested: There are many free testing sites throughout Los Angeles County and across California. We recommend that all unvaccinated students get tested prior to the first day of school.

  3. Get prepared: Before we transition back to in-person learning, especially if you have mostly been staying home during the pandemic, you may want to practice new routines, such as wearing a mask for a prolonged period of time and getting comfortable around other adults and children.
