Our Relationship With YouthBuild Global

About YouthBuild:

YouthBuild Global is the nonprofit support center for YouthBuild programs across the USA and internationally. Over the course of nearly fifty years, YouthBuild has grown into a robust network of hundreds of programs around the world. While YouthBuild programs vary according to local community needs, funding, and partnerships, every YouthBuild program operates at the nexus of three spheres: positive youth development, education, and workforce readiness and career training. All programs are built on a foundation of love and the five core elements of our model—Education, Career Pathways, Support Services, Leadership Development, and Alumni Success. There are currently over 250 YouthBuild programs in the United States and around the world. For more information about YouthBuild, visit their website: youthbuild.org

How we work with local YouthBuild programs:

YouthBuild Charter School of California (YCSC) was launched and continues to be supported by the national organization YouthBuild Global in response to California YouthBuild programs’ need for a robust high school diploma-based education option for their students. YCSC exists not as a stand-alone school, but rather as a school within a local YouthBuild program. As such, the only way to become a student at YCSC is to first become a member/participant at one of our YouthBuild program partners (listed below). Because of the school’s partnership with local YouthBuild programs, YCSC students receive not only a great education and the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, but also counseling and social wrap-around services, job training, college and career readiness, community service opportunities, and leadership development.

YCSC’s students are between 16-24 years old, yet they are allowed to re-enroll in the K-12 school because they are a part of a YouthBuild program. The California Department of Education allows for this through an exemption that is written into Education Code.
