13 YouthBuild programs and 300 young people traveled from as far as San Diego (shoutout to Heart Leaders Academy) to attend YouthBuild Day LA 2024. The day featured carnival games, an obstacle course, flag football, sack races, student speeches, arts and crafts, music and dancing, and the most exciting new addition, the In N Out truck!
During the week prior, students celebrated Youth Advocacy Week at their sites, contacting their local elected officials and advocating for more support of their YouthBuild programs. Several of the students who led Advocacy Week efforts at their sites made speeches at YouthBuild Day to encourage other young people to get involved in local politics. Students from our El Monte site who attended the Young Worker Leadership Academy at UC Berkeley in February also had a booth where they talked to their peers about their rights in the work place.
Shoutout to Kendra LaRose, Dee Goins, Michelle Fuentes-Miranda, Norma Quiñones, Rene Jimenez, Janice Haro, Jared Hernandez, and all of the other staff, students, and alumni who helped organize this event!
It’s always a blast when we all get to come together to celebrate the youth. We're already looking forward to YouthBuild Day 2025! Check out photos from the event below and on our Facebook page.
