Senior Spotlight: Luis

Q: What brought you to YouthBuild Charter School of California?

Luis: I love this school because, to be honest, I felt that I was an older boy and that I couldn't finish my school, but I was wrong. I found this school where it said that it doesn't matter how late it is to continue studying here. I am about to fulfill that dream.

Q: What did you like most about your YouthBuild Charter School of California experience?

Luis
: I like the school because of the way the teachers are with the students. And I am glad to know that we have counselors who are with us helping us to move forward.

Q: What was your favorite YouthBuild memory?
Luis: I had some very good memories. I remember when I missed school a lot and my counselor was always there telling me, "You can keep coming to school," and despite everything, I am here, thank God.

Q: How did your YouthBuild experience compare to your previous school experiences?

Luis: I had my best experience here at school. I fulfilled one of my dreams of being able to finish my school and move on.

Q: Who or what has helped motivate you to graduate?

Luis: My family. My grandmother motivated me to continue studying, and this diploma is dedicated to her because she was the one who always told me, "You are intelligent and you can keep going," and with tears in her eyes. I am here thanks to them.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?

Luis: After graduation I don't want to stop. I want to move on to my next step, which is college. I feel more energetic to keep going and be someone important.

Q: Any shoutouts you'd like to give?

Luis: First, I want to thank God. Next, I want to thank one of the best counselors the school has. Ms. Maria was one of the people who was always there for me. When she saw me sad, she'd tell me, "You can keep going. Don't look back." Thanks to her, here I am.
