our essential question was what is the impact of immigration on our community and what corresponding resources are available for community members at our new site at Pierce College hey Lester can you tell us a little bit about the cat planning process for this trimester yeah of course so when we came back uh to our T2 um we were made aware of some ice rates that were happening all over the country so what we wanted to do boys were wondering former participants and the community um as far as the rates were going and also uh to then know the rights just in case they had any encounters with uh immigration hey hey could you tell us a little bit more about the target audience for our project and what you guys did to reach out to the community yes of course we gave out these cards um know your rights cards to the participants to give out to their family members um or you know like cousins you know anyone that moves like an immigrant could you speak some about the work that you all have done reaching out to the council member yeah we reached out to the council member and um all of the participants wrote letters and um just explained um we just want to support and um the whole immigration stuff and also so um some of our seniors are going March 20th to go meet with them and talk about it more um in detail could you share a little bit more about our move to pierce campus um the Pierce College campus and how we connected that to our cap project uh yeah actually ever since we recently moved to the campus of Pierce College we wanted to explore all of the resources available here on campus for your immigration and for our community we did a tour of the Dream Center on campus which is for undocumented students and we also partnership with the food pantry located on campus which is um for students at open to all community members thank you you're welcome what kind of supports do they provide at their dream Resource Center they provide free legal services and support for undocumented students hi Millan could you tell me a little bit more about your experience serving food at the food pantry it was actually very helpful very kind you know because some people might have needed food through that week and were willing to give it great were you mostly serving other peers college students or high school students or community members or who are you serving all Community number college students very helpful pretty thank you so much thank you hi Miss Stephanie could you just share a little bit about your experience from a staff perspective about what the cap experience was like for you yes the cap experience this trimester was great uh I love seeing the participants choose a topic that they felt very passionate about and also saw was um actively affecting their Community um we started by getting to know a little bit about the history of immigration here in the United States um we also went over some safe practices when they are out in the streets demonstrating um and going to protest what to do to keep themselves safe um we also had a lesson on radical solidarity they wanted to learn more ways that they could uh be in solidarity with people who are being affected um by um the current immigration policies uh here in the US um so with that lesson we gave out red card cards to all participants I'm just showing them 1 small thing that they can do is by sharing the red cards um as staff we tried to carry them as well to make sure we're always prepared uh it was also great to see that our organization um Alliance for Community empowerment and General while supported the cap um project this trimester by also educating all staff on what to do if ice does come on campus um so there are some of the great things that um came out of this trimesters cap project um some next steps that I would like to see is I heard a lot of participants talking about the importance of the mental health effects on of um the current immigration policies on our community so maybe possibly creating a survey so that they can uh go out surveyor community and see what resources are needed to address um these negative mental health effects also a lot of them were talking about uh monetary support maybe like Mutual Aid raising funds for families affected um by of immigration thanks so much
